Hydraloop startup & care
Startup Period
Your Hydraloop device needs 21 days and 20 showers to fully activate its biological treatment system. During this period, greywater is automatically flushed to the sewer, and backup water is used instead. After startup, the system will begin supplying treated, reusable water to your connected systems.
Important Do’s and Don’ts
To ensure optimal performance and avoid disrupting the natural treatment process, follow these key guidelines.
❌ Do not allow the following into the system:
These substances can impair or block biological treatment and must be kept out of your Hydraloop device:
- Bleach or chlorine-based cleaners (avoid chlorine >1 ppm)
- Strong chemical, non-biological cleaners (e.g., oxidizers)
- Paints, solvents, pesticides, and herbicides
- Kitchen fats, oils, or grease
- Motor oil or large amounts of lubricants
- Hair dye or excessive personal care products
- High amounts of pharmaceuticals or body fluids
- Food waste or water from dishwashers and kitchen sinks
- Large particles or debris (e.g., sand, gravel, soil)
- Massage oils or thick shampoos used in large quantities
- Any human waste (including through the bath or shower)
Tip: If you must use any of these substances (e.g., bleach in cleaning), activate Bypass Mode in the Hydraloop app to direct water to the sewer instead of the system.
✅ Best practices for smooth operation:
- Use drain strainers in showers and clean them regularly
- Only use biodegradable soaps, shampoos, detergents, and cleaners
- Avoid excessive use of any cleaning or personal care product
- Keep water temperature below 60°C / 140°F
- Maintain indoor temperature between 14°C and 35°C
- Shield the unit from direct sunlight
- Keep the device upright and easily accessible
